Best meal you’ve ever had

aaaahhhhhh! Tricky

1.Cecconi’s London – wonderful Italian food with heartfelt hospitality in an incredible space with my uncle over from Australia.

2. Idle Rocks in St Mawes overlooking the harbour one long, lazy sunny afternoon in the summer, arriving (and somehow leaving) by boat.

3. Georges, Pompidous centre, Paris with Stephane Pompougnac playing, overlooking the city.

4. Time Out food market in Lisbon – the incredible variety and wonderful Portuguese wine.

Where do you go to let your hair down?

Cornwall. Always Cornwall (out of season), preferably the Chapel House in Penzance or the Star and Garter in Falmouth.

The one restaurant you’re longing to go to

The Sportsman, Kent.

Best piece of advice

If in doubt, pause.

Biggest extravagance

Georgian glass or my E46 BMW convertible (perfect for the English weather).

If you hadn’t been a pub landlord, what would you be?

Classic car dealer for Christies, Bonhams or Kidstone.

Describe the perfect Beckford Group candidate/employee.

Our waitering staff do not need to be able to carry 5 plates at the same time and dance around the pubs but rather be engaging, interested in looking after people and aware of our guests needs and desires.

We are therefore looking for naturally helpful, considerate, charming and hard working people initially and then look to train them how to carry a few plates and take orders  - their natural ability to interact with a guest is far, far more important than any technical skill they may have.

The Beckford Arms is a traditional yet stylish country inn, located on the edge of stunning rolling parkland in Wiltshire. They are currently recruiting for a Sous Chef to join their team.
